Dinner Guests

It's been forever since we've had dinner guests. Fortunately, the Barnes family was nice (and brave) enough to accept our invitation.

Before our guests arrived, Scott and I had a talk w/ Nick about being a gracious host and what that entailed. Funny, because shortly after they arrived, Sarah and Eric told us that they had a talk w/ their kids in the car about being polite guests. Not that they needed to, their kids are so well behaved. Well, Nick made us so proud. Seriously. Who was this kid? He greeted everyone at the door and asked Jack and Sophia if they wanted to go upstairs to play w/ his toys. Checking on them at one point, I saw Nick playing on his piano and singing into his mike while Jack/Sophia sat there and watched. It was pretty comical. I told him that they would probably rather play w/ his toys than sit there and watch him. To make them feel welcomed, Nick talked nonstop. Nonstop. I think Jack/Sophia were able to get a few words in. Our favorite moment was when he told Scott on the way down to dinner, "Daddy, Jack is getting so big now."

After dinner we broke out the Wii. Watching the kids play was the highlight of the night, especially Jack. That kid cracks me up! Just check out the video below.

Thanks to the Barnes family for coming. We had such a good time and hope to do it again soon!

Razorfest

Scott and my brother Steve took Nicholas to Razorfest this year. This was their first time. It's an event put on by the university with all sorts of games, inflatables and opportunities to meet the football players.

It was a rainy day and there were serious doubts whether or not they could attend. As they arrived in Fayetteville, the rain really starting coming down. They would have to turn around. You should have seen it. Eyes welled up w/ tears and voice quavered w/ barely suppressed disappointment. And Nick was even more pitiful. So they went ahead and made their way to the stadium. By the time they found parking, the rain had stopped and the sun came out. Plus most of the activities had been moved onto the covered concourse. The day was saved!

Nick had such a good time he did not want to leave. He played for a good 2 hours. I'm sure my brother was ready to leave after the 1st half hour. Overall a success!

Hanging Out

I do have a post coming w/ lots of sweet pictures of my two babies loving on each other. I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts, which won't be long I fear. This particular morning they are really enjoying each other's company. Nick does most of the talking and Abby does most of the staring. It's pretty cute I must say.

Watching a little Saturday morning cartoon.

The look on Abby's face cracks me up. Btw, the scribbles on Nick's face are whiskers. He's suppose to be a cat.

Watch For It

We had some professional pictures taken today by Amber Lanning. The shoot was to cover Nick's 4 year and Abby's 6mos pics w/ a few family shots thrown in. Let me tell you, it was F.U.N.

Nick could NOT have been more uncooperative if he tried. Little did Amber know she was close to photographing a crime scene. Rolling around on the ground like an animal. Check. Moving right as the camera clicks. Check. Making weird faces at the camera. Check. Refusing to smile? Check. Be sure to look for the clenched teeth and veins popping from our necks.

*update* - I will do another post when the pictures are ready. I just put a link to Amber's site so you could see her work.

Freshly bathed and ready for pictures.

Freshly napped and ready to wreak havoc.

Hanging Tough! Don't ask me why, but that song popped in my head when I was taking this picture.

Touch A Truck

There have been lots of fun local events lately. Lucky for Nick, Scott is all about letting him experience them (while Mommy and sis veg on the couch.) He's got a good daddy. Their latest event was Touch-A-Truck. It's a charity event that allow kids to climb on and in all different types of vehicles. We went for the first time a couple of years ago. It did not go well. Nick did not like all the constant honking. Can't blame him, it was annoying after a while. This year was a different story. He had such a good time.

Razorback Car!

Oy! If you know me, you know that my first question to Scott when I saw this was, "Did you sanitize his hands after that?" His answer made me *cringe*.

6 Months!

Sweet little Abbers. Half a year old already. Our baby's growing up too fast!
  • We've finally got you down to a 3 nap schedule. You go to bed @ 7:30 and wake up @ 6:30. You can barely stay awake longer than 1.5 - 2 hrs at a time most day, even if you take a 2hr nap.
  • You roll over and sleep on your belly now. Although I want to, I don't go in and flip you over. I swear it keeps me up at night when it looks like you're sleeping flat on your face. It is cute, however, to see your little butt up in the air when you're asleep.
  • You're still just an okay eater. You LOVE sweet potatoes and eat one good meal of baby food a day. You take 4 bottles a day now.
  • No teeth yet, but you do "chew" the heck out of your little fingers and drool like crazy.
  • You do so much better in the car now, only fussing occasionally when you're sleepy.
  • Your hair is finally starting to fill back in. It's no longer sticking up in front b/c it's too long. It just flops over into your eyes. I can't clip it back b/c you squirm too much.
  • You're really perfecting your reach and grasp. Sometimes you can pick up a puff, but getting it into your mouth is different story. You especially like to go for the tv remote.
  • You have no interest in holding your own bottle, just like someone else I know. Hopefully you won't wait as long.
  • You can sit up by yourself for the most part when you support yourself w/ your hands. I still put pillows around you just in case.
  • We love how you light up when you see your brother. You will sit there and just stare at him forever. It's so sweet.

Abby's Baptism

With Easter over, we were finally able to have Abby's baptism. We had it down in Fort Smith. A small, private ceremony amongst family. It was a beautiful and blessed occasion and we were so fortunate to have our families there to help us celebrate.

Abby did fairly well considering she'd missed a nap, though she scowled the entire time. She howled like the dickens when the priest pour the baptismal water on her head. Poor thing, she passed out immediately afterwards and missed the celebratory lunch.

We want to express our appreciation to all of our family members for their presence. A special thank you my brother, Nghia, who accepted the role of godparent to our baby girl. You are such a loving and positive presence in her life. And much love and gratitude to Scott's parents, and especially to his sister, Jill, for making the long drive to join us. It meant so much to us that you were there for Abby on this special day. She is truly so blessed!
