Abby's 1st Haircut

It's been a while since I've posted a picture of Abby.  So you can only imagine just how long her "bangs" had gotten.  They were halfway down her nose, which wouldn't be so bad if she would let me put a clip in her hair.  Futile I say.  While we were in TX a few weeks back, I took her with Scott's mom to trim her hair at the beauty parlor (that's for you, Beth.)  As expected, she did not go down without a fight.  But she got over it quickly.  I texted a picture to my friend Heidi and asked, "what's up w/ my kids and haircuts?"  She wrote back, "apparently they don't like them."  Duh.

I think it suits her perfectly.

Mr. Ken

I'm sure you've seen a post or two about Nick's resistance (putting it oh so mildly) to getting his hair cut. Well, 3-4 months ago Scott and I thought we'd give it another go at a salon. Scott took him to Great Clips and a guy named "Mr. Ken" cut his hair. He did fabulously. We were stunned. Where did this compliance come from? I suppose it didn't hurt that we bribed him w/ his toy of choice at Walmart.

So Mr. Ken has been his stylist for the last few months. Ask him and he'd be happy to tell you. School pictures were coming up and he needed a trim. Unfortunately, Mr. Ken was not available and one of the girls there had to do it. After the cut, she styled it per my request (a fauxhawk of sorts b/c the front was too blunt.) I wish you could have seen the look on Nick's face and heard his howl of indignation.

"What did you do to my hair?! I've got crazy hair now!! What? What? What did you do?!" I tried to explain to him that his hair looked cool. His response was, "crazy hair is not cool!!"

The stylist could not stop laughing, and neither could everyone else in the salon. When Scott fixed Nick's hair for school the next morning, he immediately put water on it and brushed it down. The following day was picture day. I asked him to let me style his hair. Once pictures were over he wouldn't have to wear the crazy hair anymore. As soon as we arrived, all the teachers and moms told him how cool his hair looked. I'm quite certain he could not have walked around w/ his chest puffed out any higher. He has not complained about his hair since. Although we have not styled the fauxhawk now that the "bangs" look better. If you ask him who cuts his hair now, he'll say, "that woman."

Here's The Buzz

So I told you in a previous post that Nick was gonna get buzzed this weekend. Clippergate went down early this morning. He knew something was going on, but couldn't quite figure it out until we ambushed him. He howled like a trapped animal. Quite funny, actually. I've always wondered how torturers could stand to hear their victims screaming. You'd be surprised at how quickly you can tune out the wailing. Let me tell you, there was hair everywhere and lots of it. It's super short, but we think this is the route we're taking going forward. The buzzing, not the torturing (but I suppose it's all about perspective). It shouldn't take nearly as long next time, as we plan on investing in some clippers ourselves and making it a monthly event. The only downside... he slipped the other day running around the house and hit his forehead on the corner of the wall. There was an immediate bruise, swelling and mark. So now instead of thinking we don't groom our son, people will think we abuse him with the clippers.

This was his good side.

I told you it was short. Isn't that wound just pitiful?

Thought I'd kill two birds w/ one stone and show off the fab scarf I made him.
