Visitin' The 'Rents

The last few days have been rather uneventful, even w/ a two year old. I'm feeling a tad under the weather, so you're not going to see the normal "witty, in-your-face w/a plucky spirit" writing. Your disappointment is palpable.

We went down to Ft. Smith to visit my folks over the weekend. Scott and I like to visit b/c (other than seeing my family) we pretty much hand Nick over to my mom and we veg on the couch and stuff our faces . Have you ever seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding? My mom's just an Asian version of the bride's mom. We'll finish a huge meal and an hour later, she'll ask if we're hungry. She plies us with food constantly. Scott and I oblige her, of course, so we always come home feeling as if we've gained at least 5lbs each. Naturally, she sends food w/ us to take home as well. We always have a good time and Nicholas loves having his every whim catered to by my parents and his uncles.

Too cool in his shades

Getting smooches from his Ba Ngoai

Yes, this is my handywork. Age 2 and he has perfected the yearbook pose. It will serve him well in the years to come. You can see it runs in the family.

Yum!

You don't need a special occasion for a Rice Krispies treat. Make some today and bring it by.

Mini Break

We're back! I hope everyone missed us terribly. We got in yesterday and have been trying to catch up on some much needed rest. We had a fantastic time with my family out in Corona, CA. We stayed w/ my cousin, Khoi, and his wife, Hai and their 3 kids. Nicholas had a great time with his cousins Matthew, Megan and Nicholas. Thanks so much guys for having us and showing us around. We miss you already.
Unfortunately, our camera wasn't working, but we did use my brother's. I'll have pictures up as soon as I get them from him. You'll be hearing more from me shortly.

It's Genetic, Dummy!

Nicholas is not what I would call a super picky eater, but he certainly has his likes and dislikes. One of our biggest issue is just getting him to try something new. We know he'll like most foods once he tries it, but getting it into his mouth is a challenge. After much experimentation and observation (this morning), I have developed a foolproof method. It involves no coaxing, demands or threats. Ready? I simply eat the food in front of him without offering him any. His "I need to check this out" radar goes off immediately. I'll ignore his demands for a bite and he'll grab my hand to shove the food in his mouth. Genius!! Well, maybe not so much genius as he is genetically predisposed. Whenever we go out to eat, Scott's dish always looks and tastes better than mine, even if I order the same thing.

He's got his game face on.
